Board of Directors and Staff
A native of western Pennsylvania, Michael has been involved with the sport of ice hockey as a player, coach, and official for more than three decades. After completing graduate school at Arizona State University, Michael spent a dozen years in education as a teacher and athletic director before transitioning to ice rink management. Michael is a travel enthusiast who spent six years living abroad in Abu Dhabi, Japan, Europe, and Uganda. Michael is thrilled to be in the Gunnison Valley and take advantage of the many events and activities that make this a special place to live.
Joel Aslanian grew up and played his youth hockey in Traverse City, Michigan. He developed a love of the game, skating on lakes and playing competitive hockey throughout Michigan. He graduated from Ferris State University with a degree in Recreation Management. He relocated to the Gunnison Valley in 2000 to pursue fly-fishing and snowboarding. He has 14 years of coaching experience for the West Elk Hockey Association. He believes hockey is a great way to teach character and build a strong community. He is looking forward to another great season of playing, coaching, and now serving as the Director of Hockey Operations for WEHA.
